The Queen Has Risen – Escolta, Manila’s History is Today’s Experience

Ever wondered what really happens at Escolta? The street is surrounded by bustling places like Chinatown, Divisoria, Quiapo Market, and Sta. Cruz, where apparently, you can order eyeglasses. Which we think is very.. random? But hey, it’s cheap!

With the busy places left and right, the curiosity of what the Queen of Manila Streets can offer skyrocketed, especially with all the clamor about Escolta’s Block Festival last November 2019 that features the rich history of Escolta and provides a platform for the local business and music industry of today.

Now THAT’S a party! Unfortunately, Escolta’s Block Festival stopped its reruns every year because the pandemic happened. We can only hope it returns this year, but for now, let’s check out what Downtown Manila is up to today!

First up on our list is the First United Building’s very own Hub|Make Lab that is, in its authenticity and culture, a revivalist’s dream. A jamboree of art, music, history, and various creations from the locals make this place a must-visit!

And inside the Hub, you’ll find a small indie cafe known as The Den, a place where you’ll find coffee + culture in one sitting.

When you’re done winding down at The Den cafe and exploring the wonders of the Hub|Make Lab, come on over to Fred’s Revolucion! Just a few steps away from the chill and artsy hub, the indie nightclub embraces you with a fun and kind atmosphere. Dubbed by Tatler Asia as one of the top 10 safe spaces for queer people to drink and enjoy, swinging by Fred’s Revolucion is surely on the list.

Bonus: if you’re more of a foodie, we’ve got the place for you! LGA Fastfood, also known as Estero by the locals, serves meals fit for the food crawl experience. Be sure to come here early to beat the long lines of people waiting to have their fill!

With all this, we must agree. The Queen Has Risen – Escolta is back on track to being one of the main attractions in Manila. Take the crown of the streets, Escolta! We’ll see you there in all your glory!
