Don’t we speak for everyone when we say commuting in Metro Manila with your pet is such a pain in the neck? Case in point, not every public transport available permits us to do so.

But fur parents now have something to look forward to! The LRT-2 has allowed small pets aboard the train starting February.

This policy change by the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) administrator Hernando Cabrera is in line with their efforts to be a pet-friendly railway. So far, only Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) allows small pets on its trains.

“Beginning February 1, puwede nang magdala at magsakay ng ating [mga] pets sa mga station at tren ng LRT-2,” he said in a public briefing.

Owners bringing their pets are required to comply with the following before hailing the trains next week:

    – full vaccination of pets
    – confined to a proper cage to avoid bothering other passengers
    – must be clean and wearing diapers
    – must have a “certain size” and cannot be too big

Cabrera, however, did not specify what constitutes a prohibited “big” pet, with no mention of a specific breed, height, length, width, or weight permitted.

The announcement came after the LRTA hinted at a policy change on January 25.

Consequently, this elicited mixed reactions from the netizens.

What about you, fam? What are your thoughts about this LRTA’s recent move? Is it a a yay or a nay?
