On the first week of the enhanced community quarantine, Mayor Victor Ma. Regis Sotto or simply Mayor Vico Sotto of Pasig City was summoned and even prejudiced by the National Government because of insisting the use of tricycles as means of transportation in the city after the public transportation was hampered by the ECQ.
The very reason why Mayor Sotto pushed the said local government policy was because of the other patients in the city such as those to undergo dialysis, those who are terminally ill, those who have their regular checkup, out-patients and most especially pregnant women.
For nine months, pregnant women are continuously monitoring their health and the health of someone inside them, their precious baby. Their conditions are sensitive enough to be taken care of. This is the very reason why transportation that will carry them to clinics and hospitals is essential.
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) Region 7 has catered a solution that will surely help pregnant women in Cebu in addressing their hospital needs.
The LTO Region 7 launched the Buntis Sakay Program on April 14, 2020. It aims to provide transportation to pregnant women amid the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine in the province of Cebu due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
UPDATE: LTO-7 LAUNCHES NEW ROUTE FOR BUNTIS SAKAY PROGRAM
Starting on April 21, 2020, a new route for the free ride…
Free bus rides are provided for all pregnant women having their medical care on the following hospital in Metropolitan Cebu: St. Anthony Mother and Child Hospital (F. Gabuya St., Basak San Nicolas), Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center and Cebu Maternity Hospital, (B. Rodriguez St.), Visayas Community Medical Center (Osmena Blvd.), St. Vincent Hospital (Osmena Blvd.), and Cebu City Medical Center.
Three weeks into the quarantine period, our Buntis Sakay program is now one week old and mothers-to-be are able to continue their pre-natal consultation at their hospitals.
Bus routes usually start at Starmall Talisay and begin to cater pregnant passengers at 8:00 in the morning and 2:00 in the afternoon. Return trips are scheduled to depart at 11:00 in the morning and 4:00 in the afternoon. Pregnant women can hail and drop off the bus along the routes nearest to their respective residences.
Free bus rides operate from Monday to Saturday. Each pregnant woman can travel with only one companion.
Pregnant mothers and their families in the Cebu City North District areas have been clamouring for the Buntis Sakay…
It could be also a desire of every pregnant woman in the country to be cared by this kind of service, most especially in Metropolitan Manila where it is exceedingly difficult to travel during this ECQ.
Let us continue to hope for better days ahead. Keep safe and sound!
