The heartbreak of saying goodbye to a pet
The heartbreak of saying goodbye to a pet
November 3, 2026

In many Filipino households, dogs and cats are treated as part of the family. They are often around during meals, follow their owners from room to room, and wait by the door when someone comes home. Having them around becomes a normal part of family life.

Pets offer a kind of companionship that makes them special to their owners. They are there during ordinary days and even in moments when their owners feel alone. They may not understand every word spoken to them, but their affection and loyalty can bring a sense of comfort that is difficult to put into words.

As owners grow attached to their pets, they begin to recognize their habits, understand their different moods, and make room for them in their daily routines. Feeding them, taking them for walks, and caring for them may seem like simple responsibilities, but these experiences help build a bond that goes beyond simply looking after an animal.

That is why losing a pet can be difficult to accept. The house feels different without them, and even the simplest routines can bring back memories. Owners are left adjusting to the absence of a companion they once saw and cared for every day.

This makes the recent issue involving Ahjay Paws Aftercare Pet Crematorium particularly upsetting. Twenty-nine deceased dogs and cats were found dumped in a vacant lot in Bulacan, raising concerns that some pets entrusted to the facility may not have been properly handled.

For pet owners, cremation is one way of giving their companions a proper goodbye. They trust these facilities to take care of their pets' remains, especially when they are still grieving. Finding out that this trust has been broken and that they have been taken advantage of only makes an already painful loss even harder to bear.

At the end of the day, the love people have for their pets does not simply disappear when they are gone. The memories remain in the homes they once filled and the lives they made a little happier. They may not be human, but the place they hold in someone's heart is just as meaningful.
