The EDSA rehabilitation begins: What you need to know
The EDSA rehabilitation begins: What you need to know
January 28, 2026

Major roadworks on EDSA are officially back. Starting December 24, 2025, the government began a massive project to fix Metro Manila’s main highway. This is the first time the road has undergone such a big repair since 1980.

The project is now much faster and cheaper than first planned. Instead of taking two years, the work will be finished in just eight months. The government is using a special type of asphalt from Japan called "stone mastic asphalt." This material is stronger, lasts longer, and helps water drain better, which means fewer potholes and less flooding in the future.

To keep traffic moving, most of the work happens at night. From 10 PM to 4 AM, workers fix the road lane by lane. During the day, the lanes are reopened so people can get to work and school. The EDSA Busway also remains open, so commuters can still use public transport.

The goal is to have a smoother, safer road ready by mid-2026. While the construction might cause some delays now, it will hopefully improve the travel experience for everyone very soon.
