Taylor Swift made history at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, becoming the most-awarded artist in VMA history after receiving the inaugural Artist Director Honors and taking home Video of the Year for ‘The Fate of Ophelia.’
The new honor broke Swift’s tie with Beyoncé, who both entered the ceremony with 30 VMA wins. The Artist Director Honors was introduced to recognize artists whose work behind the camera has expanded the possibilities of music videos and visual storytelling.
Adding to an already historic night, Swift also won Video of the Year for ‘The Fate of Ophelia,’ a track from her album ‘The Life of a Showgirl.’ She dedicated the award to the late Dolly Parton, praising the country icon’s storytelling and influence.

Nirvana received the Video Vanguard Award, with surviving members Krist Novoselic, Dave Grohl, and Pat Smear accepting the honor.
