In the latest episode of Hangover on January 15, the band LILY was asked about the ongoing comparisons between their vocalist Joshua and Callalily frontman Kean Cipriano.

The question raised was about why many listeners say Joshua’s voice sounds very familiar, with some believing this was the reason he was chosen as the band’s main vocalist. Others also shared that they still prefer the former vocalist and continue to compare the two singers.

Joshua addressed the issue honestly, saying he understands where the comparisons are coming from. “I understand kasi 'yun yung band before,” he shared. He explained that while comparisons are natural, his focus—and the band’s focus—is now fully on LILY as a new band with a new branding. “Kung may pinalitan ka, ma-co-compare ka talaga,” he added.

The band emphasized that they are no longer dwelling on the past. Joshua compared it to moving on from a relationship, saying, “Parang relationship lang yan, eh! Move on ka na, Boy.”

Band member Alden also pointed out that LILY is not performing old songs anymore, making the comparisons less relevant. “Compare if you want, but we’re not even playing the old songs,” he said.

Meanwhile, Aaron shared that he understands fans who feel nostalgic, as many grew up listening to the old sound. Still, he stressed that LILY is moving forward with a new identity. “Callalily is Callalily, LILY is LILY. This is who we are right now.”

The group ended the discussion on a light note, thanking even their critics. They said the attention—good or bad—helps keep the conversation going.
