Established OPM rapper Gloc-9 recently opened up about his deep bond with the late, fellow rapper Francis Magalona. He revealed that the latter artist lent him money to support his nursing education.

In an interview on "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda," the “Simpleng Tao” artist shared, "Sir Kiks, can I borrow money from you?” In response, Magalona said, “Come to ‘Eat Bulaga,’ (a noontime show) and I will give you money for your tuition."

The rapper stressed that this act of kindness from Magalona was done with no strings attached. More so, Gloc-9 recalled the late rapper’s wisdom, quoting, "You can earn money. You can’t earn friends." He also shared that he made sure to repay the loan, honoring the trust Magalona had in him.

In addition to this generous support, Gloc-9 fondly remembered that Magalona was the godfather to his twins and attended their baptism despite his busy schedule. The OPM rap hitmaker, who considers himself Magalona’s "number one fan," also highlighted the mentor-mentee relationship they shared.

According to an account from Joseph Atilano in 2012, Gloc-9’s rise from an underground rapper to a leading figure in local hip-hop was also due to Magalona’s guidance.

Today, Gloc-9 remains a prominent voice in rap, using his platform to address social issues and connect with the youth, much like his mentor Francis Magalona did during his life.
