Commonly, celibacy is a voluntary decision to be unmarried or to abstain from sexual activities for religious purposes. For Generation Z or commonly known as “Gen Z,” they take it as abstinence not only in sexual activities but even in romantic relationships; for their personal reasons such as ‘self-love’ and casually just taking a break from intimacy.

There are countless factors that affect Gen Z’s decision to opt for celibacy. Through the rising awareness of choosing to protect one’s mental health and self-care, many young adults are choosing to improve and build themselves first before committing to a casual or serious relationship.

Some may say that their decision to celibate is caused by their chosen gender identity, making them realize that they belong in this certain spectrum. By this, they have been able to recognize their sexual desires and who they want to do it with. Although, not every Gen Z commits with this as this is still a choice to make.

In this era, thankfully, people are more open for discussions that celibacy is nothing to be ashamed of and consent to have sex is a must. The younger generation is a lot more confident with their rights and choices that help them express more of their freedom. The choices they make are for their own self-growth and self-love.

Nothing in life is ever easy. Opting for celibacy is discovering one's needs, desires, and wants. The benefits of it are endless, of course, with reaching self-love and self-growth comes enlightenment.

It might take a long time, but the essence of eliminating people whose values do not align with yours justifies the lesson and healing you gained in the process. And hoping that someday, you meet someone who can understand you emotionally and mentally, stimulating a deep connection that brings out the best in you.
