The University of the Philippines (UP) is set to honor OPM rock band Eraserheads the 2024 Gawad Oblation award. This is the first return of the original band members to their alma mater since forming the band in 1989.
The Gawad Oblation is one of UP's highest honors, given to those who &ldquo;bring significant recognition to the university.&rdquo; It is named after &ldquo;The Oblation,&rdquo; a famous sculpture by National Artist Guillermo E. Tolentino, inspired by Jose Rizal's Mi Ultimo Adios.

The ceremony will take place on Tuesday, August 20, at UP Diliman's Executive House.
The Eraserheads, originally composed of Marcus Adoro, Ely Buendia, Raimund Marasigan, and Buddy Zabala, became famous in the 1990s. Their first album, Ultraelectromagneticpop! (1993), included popular songs like "Pare Ko," "Toyang," and "Ligaya." They followed up with other hit albums, featuring songs like "Minsan," "Alapaap," and "Ang Huling El Bimbo."
Although they disbanded in 2002, the Eraserheads have reunited for several concerts, including a huge reunion in 2008. In 2022, they played another major concert, Huling El Bimbo, which drew a crowd of 75,000 people.
This year, they announced they would continue their 2023 world tour with shows in North America, Asia, and the Middle East.
