The Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) is raising the fuel surcharge on airline tickets from Level 14 to Level 17, effective October 1 to 15. The increase comes as jet fuel prices continue to be affected by changes in the global oil market.

With the new Level 17 surcharge, passengers could pay an additional ₱559 to ₱1,635 for domestic flights. For international flights, the added charge could range from ₱1,846.10 to ₱13,726.58, depending on the destination.

And with Undas just around the corner, this could be another extra expense for Filipinos planning to travel home to visit their loved ones or spend the holiday with family.

For those wondering, the fuel surcharge is an additional fee that airlines may collect to help cover changes in jet fuel costs. It can move up or down depending on fuel prices in the global market.

The surcharge was previously at Level 14 from September 16 to 30, meaning travelers flying in October may now see a higher fuel-related charge on their tickets.

CAB has 20 fuel surcharge levels, with Level 20 being the highest. So while Level 17 isn't the maximum, it's definitely something travelers may want to consider when planning their holiday budget.
