Miley Cyrus drops new heartbreak anthem ‘Flowers’

  2023 is, indeed, Miley Cyrus’s year as she recovered from her heartbreak and shares it with us with a new release!

  The American singer-songwriter officially began a new era with the release of her latest single, “Flowers,” on Friday, January 13– (not so) coincidentally her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth’s 33rd birthday. The song is an empowering take on recovering from a heartbreak. Moreso, Cyrus also tackles self-love and independence after dealing with the breakup. Hence, it’s not far from true that the song is closely related to Hemsworth.

  Miley derived lyrical elements from the 2011 Bruno Mars hit “When I Was Your Man;” it was speculated that Liam once dedicated the song to the Hannah Montana star. The sampled song tackles regret after a relationship; for context, Bruno Mars was concerned about losing his fiancée Jessica Caban at the time of writing.

  Sampling the smash hit, Cyrus appeared to respond to the following lyrics:

  That I should have bought you flowers

  And held your hand

  Should have gave you all my hours

  When I had the chance

  Take you to every party ’cause all you wanted to do was dance

  In her latest song, “Flowers,” Miley adopts this idea but changes the lyrics to translate the message into a more “self-love” approach:

  I can buy myself flowers

  Write my name in the sand

  Talk to myself for hours

  Say things you don’t understand

  I can take myself dancing

  And I can hold my own hand

  Not only the anthem in itself was of self-empowerment, but it was also accompanied by a fashion-forward music video of the same nature. Upon its release, the music video had amassed more than two million views as of the time of writing.

  Cyrus and Hemsworth became acquainted after co-starring in the film adaptation of “The Last Song” by Nicholas Sparks, then made their red-carpet debut as a couple two years later. They, then, announced their engagement in 2012 but broke up eventually (leading Miley to her “Bangerz” era). The two got back in 2016 – which led to Miley being seen wearing their engagement ring once more. They got married in December 2018 but divorced later in 2019. They were married for less than a year.

  “Flowers” is the lead single from Miley Cyrus’ upcoming eighth studio album, “Endless Summer Vacation,” which is set for release on March 10 worldwide.
