The Oscars is back again, now hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, who previously hosted the 2017 and 2018 editions of the annual celebration of cinema.
Heading into the big night, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert’s hit Everything Everywhere All at Once led the 203 nominees class with 11 nods in different categories, Best Picture among one of them. The fittingly ubiquitous film ultimately won in that category and six others. It was joined in the 2023 class of Best Picture nominees by All Quiet on the Western Front, Avatar: The Way of Water, The Banshees of Inisherin, Elvis, The Fabelmans, Tár, Triangle of Sadness, Women Talking, and Top Gun: Maverick.
As a tribute to the film All Quiet on the Western Front, this year’s award show started with a U.S Navy Flyover.
“The movie is the ultimate love letter to Naval Aviation and all the sailors around the globe who are currently standing watch,” Lt. Cmdr. Doug Morrow of VFA-122 said of the honor of being involved in the 2023 opening segment. “It’s humbling to be a part of this year’s Oscars celebration,” he further added.
Also revealed in the weeks leading up to the 2023 Ceremony that there was a “Crisis Team” developed following the infamous slapping of Will Smith to Chris Rock during last year’s edition of the awards night.
