Easy Rock’s exclusive interview with Bert De Leon In an exclusive interview with 96.3 Easy Rock, Bert De Leon, well-known director and musician, revealed that he just launched a new band in the name of Red Picasso.
Originally, Red Picasso, was called Picasso’s Dream. Until they found out that a band in Ohio got the name already.
The band’s name was derived from the red series painting of Pablo Picasso.
Red Picasso had their first performance on September 1 at Diamond Hotel and was launched at Hard Rock Cafe on a Friday night, September 4.
Red Picasso at Easy Rock’s After-Work Party at Hard Rock Cafe According to Direk Bert, Hard Rock Cafe was a good luck charm to him. All bands under him was launched at Hard Rock and their careers went well. Just like Area One, The Zoo (Arnel Pineda’s band), and Mulatto.
The new band is composed of three musicians from The Zoo, Anna Jameo of Mulatto and two newbies for the lead guitars and vocals.
Red Picasso focuses on good mixtures of old and new songs since they cater audiences coming from different generations. However, Direk Bert retained the signature songs of his musicians; just like the pop-rock songs of The Zoo, diva songs of Anna, and rock for Calvin, the new vocalist.
Direk Bert also said that Red Picasso’s music is edgier since they are coming up with a little bit of everything. The band is even in the process of putting dance tunes. However, the band’s goal is to always achieve the happy mix of old and new.
When asked if the band will write original songs, “we’ll get there eventually,” was the director’s reply.
Direk Bert also spoke of the band’s advantage. He said, “the thing about this band is they’re young enough–skilled–to be competitive in the recording business. P’wede pang sumabay.” Moreover, Red Picasso is towards making pure music than hitting the spotlights of show business.
At the moment, Red Picasso caters music to lounges, bars, social functions, and the like. They are also open to band back-ups and concert front acts.
The band plays every Friday at Hard Rock Cafe in Makati.
