November 15th, 2018
If you are planning to visit El Nido in Palawan anytime soon, this will surely concern you because it’s just been confirmed by Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu that Manila’s top tourist spot will undergo rehabilitation according to ABS-CBN News.
22 establishments in El Nido will be closed down by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources due to different violations.
Unlike Boracay, El Nido will not be closed down from public. “Hindi na po kailangan ipasara [ang El Nido], yung mga pasaway lang po ang ipasasara natin,” DENR Undersecretary Benny Antiporda said in an interview.
El Nido municipal administrator RJ Dela Calzada said authorities would soon limit the number of tourists visiting the key island destinations in order to preserve the area.
Redesigning tour packages is also a part of the future plans to regulate the number of tourists. Instead of the usual four standard tour packages, consisting of five to six attractions, they are now expanding it to seven with fewer destinations per package.
They are certain that they do not want to follow the footsteps of Boracay.
Tourists have to expect that stricter regulations will be implemented.
Netizens have already shared their thoughts in the rehabilitation of the tourist spot and most of them are in favor and strongly supports the preservation of our environment.
