How to work smart?
April 4th, 2019
For sure in your work life you’ve heard once or twice the phrase, “work smarter, not harder.” Well, you are only capable of working harder if you have the effort and endurance. But if you want to work smarter, it has everything to do with time and efficiency.
True enough that the people who can intuitively work smarter are lucky, right?
But if you belong to the group that needs conscious effort to work smarter, here’s a list of the few things that you need to consider.
1. CREATE YOUR WORK HABITS
If you have daily tasks or routine at work, it is better if you get your working habits. Schedule everything, even your social media break or the time that you’ll spend to lurk on social media. When you have built these working habits, you’ll perform these tasks automatically and efficiently.
2. SET REALISTIC GOALS
Sure, it’s nice to make a to-do list. Just make sure that they are realistic, and you’ll be able to accomplish them in a day. Once you include this in your everyday routine, your productivity will increase over time.
Make your work space efficient by organizing your files, equipment, tools, etc. It will save you from looking and searching all over your place. You’re not only saving yourself from the hustle but you’re also saving time which you can use for more important things.
4. LESSEN TIME-SUCKING
Attention bosses! Meetings can be the biggest time-suck for employees. Make sure that your meetings are productive, and agendas are necessary for a face-to-face discussion. If things can be dealt through email, do so.
For employees, your coffee breaks can be a time-sucker too. Sometimes, your 15-minute break extends because of your chit-chats. Imagine, you could have replied to an email if you didn’t extend your coffee break to another five (5) minutes.
5. TAKE ONE TASK AT A TIME
Simply put, try not to multi-task. Well, it can really be helpful at times. However, not all the time it helps you to get your tasks done.
6. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF TECHNOLOGY
We are working in the age of technology. Utilize your office tools to automate stuff. Let technology do its job for you and make things efficient for you and your work.
7. TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF
All these things are not possible if you’re not focused or in proper physical and mental health. Make sure that you are investing on your health because even if there are thousand of ways on how to work smart, a company won’t be effective if its employees are not in good condition.
