The legendary singer kept his sexuality for decades because he was scared of disappointing his fans. “I thought I would be disappointing them if they knew I was gay,” he told People.” So I never did anything.”
In 2015, news broke out that the singer married his longtime manager Garry Kief. Manilow and Kief never commented on the news and kept silent about it because they were both unsure on how the fans would react to them.
Manilow was delighted by his fans’ reaction around the world after he revealed his decade-long secret. “I thought I would be disappointing them if they knew I was gay. So I never did anything. When they found out that Garry and I were together, they were so happy. The reaction was so beautiful – strangers commenting, ‘Great for you!’ I’m just so grateful for it,” the singer added.
The singer also thanked his fans worldwide by posting a link on Twitter to the People magazine article. He wrote, “Thank you to my fans for the years of support. My story is out and I look forward to many more years of sharing my music.”
Barry Manilow is made known of his hit songs such as ‘Looks Like We Made It’, ‘Copacabana’ and ‘Mandy’.
